The ground here is the same thin limestone shelf that runs through most of the north shore, which means septic systems are almost universally aerobic, built to handle a shallow soil profile that can’t absorb wastewater the way deeper ground could. A lot of Jonestown’s older cabin lots have been rebuilt or expanded over the years, and the septic systems underneath them have had to keep up with homes that now see year-round use instead of just summer weekends. We regularly find aerobic systems here that were sized years ago for a smaller, seasonal household and are now under real pressure from full time living.
