Hornsby Bend runs along the Colorado River east of Austin, an area known well beyond Travis County to birders thanks to the Hornsby Bend Bird Observatory, part of Austin Water’s own biosolids facility along the river. Outside of that well known landmark, Hornsby Bend is mostly farmland and rural residential property, sitting on the deeper river bottom soils that come with being this close to the Colorado. That soil profile is more forgiving than the thin limestone found west of the city, but proximity to the river brings its own concern: floodplain regulations that affect where and how a septic system can be installed or repaired.
Most of the properties we service in Hornsby Bend are longer standing rural homes and small farms, with systems that have generally been in place for years.
